I enjoyed the article and agree with your call for good civic citizenship. I too have commented on the lack of engagement that I see in Canada. Unlike you, I do not remember taking civics. It may be that we did and I've forgotten as it would have been a long time ago. Regardless, I think it needs to be part of the curriculum of every high school in Canada.
I do take issue with your comment that conservatives need their belief to be the dominant belief. This is an authoritarian trend that I see on both the left and the right. Rephrased as "some conservatives" would make it more accurate but then the same could be applied to "some liberals." More and more I'm beginning to think that we don't have a left/right problem but an authoritarian problem. And the further left or right you go the worse it becomes.
